The Mission of Door Creek Church

Image1 What are we about? The mission of Door Creek is about changing people into devoted followers of Christ who change the world with His love. Or more simply, Changing lives to change the world.

Image2What are we committed to? Door Creek is committed to seven key values:

1. A Life of Worship-worshiping God in all of life

2. The Bible's Authority-centering our lives on God's Truth

3. The Richness of Community-growing together in Christ

4. Joyful Witness-sharing and living the Good News

5. Compassionate Service- humbly extending His compassion to those in need

6. Intentional Training-preparing and releasing God's people for ministry

7. Persistent Prayer-devoting ourselves to pray continually

There you have it, a succinct version of our vision and values. Now let's describe how we got there, and what it means for us, and you.

Beginnings

It's important to remember our past as we look to the future. In 1965, over 90 committed servants from Bethany Evangelical Free Church joined Pastor Bob Fallt in making great sacrifices to establish a witness on the corner of Buckeye and Vondron Roads, to be known as Buckeye EFC. Later that same year Bethany started Blackhawk EFC.

Fast forward to April, 1997 when the Buckeye EFC congregation enthusiastically voted to begin the process of relocating our ministry to Sprecher and Dominion Roads, on what is now the far east side of Madison.

In December 1997, the “Planting Seeds for Growth” Capital Campaign began raising funds to build a new facility on Sprecher Road.

Construction began in the spring of 1999. Door Creek Phase 1 was completed and the congregation moved in for Christmas services in 2000.

When we see these pictures and hear the story of our more than 40-year history, we can’t help but think:

1. There were courageous leaders at the helm, with vision

2. There were great sacrifices by God’s people

3. God has been faithful to us and has prospered His work in and through His people

Our vision process reminds me of the Eagle Tower in Peninsula State Park in Door County. It’s slow going to the top but when you get there you have a great vantage point as you can see a long way off … all the way to Michigan! The cris-crossing tie bars remind me of our values that hold together our vision.

Words of Caution

As excited as I am to share the leadership’s vision for our church, I am very aware of certain pitfalls. First, there is the danger of pride. When pride slips into a vision process we are prone to dream dreams for our glory rather than God’s. A second danger is taking a shortcut to get there. Abraham is a classic example. God gave him a clear vision of the future which included a son, and through the son a great nation more numerous than the sands of the sea.

Yet Abraham takes matters in his own hands to bring it about--the short cut was having a child by his wife’s servant Hagar instead of through his wife Sarah! The third danger is reacting before reflection. As I review the process, you will see that there has been a lot of hard work, interaction, feedback, prayer, and reflection.

Our Process

The leadership of this church worked hard to cast a new vision for our church. Starting with Pastor Brad, hundreds of leaders (including the Stewardship Board and Staff) spent hundreds of hours talking, planning, dreaming, and praying, asking God to lead us.

Our dreams for Door Creek are rooted in the Great Commission. They are guided and secured by our values that are anchored in the Bible. We have prayed, and we must all pray, asking God for ongoing guidance, help, strength and an undivided heart as we pursue His glory, not our own.

So the leadership of Door Creek humbly brings this vision to our church family. We desire to be faithful to our responsibility and to be a church that brings honor to God. At the same time we want to be a church that the city of Madison is glad to have in its midst. Proverbs 11:10 says, “When the righteous prosper the city rejoices.” May God smile and the city rejoice that we are here!

Our Dreams

In response to the goodness of God given to us in His Son, we dream of a church that joins Him in changing people into devoted followers of Christ who change the world with His love.

What does a devoted follower of Christ look like? They...

  • Worship God with all their heart in all of life
  • Grow together in Christ
  • Serve others
  • Reach out to those who don’t know Christ

May Door Creek be the church that you’ve always wanted--may your friends, children, and grandchildren find Christ here and see Him change their lives. May marriages find hope and a place to grow strong. May this place comfort you in your sorrow and rejoice with you in your victories. May your involvement with this church regularly give you little tastes of heaven!

Will you join us in this journey? Use this vision and these values as a prayer guide in the months ahead as you pray for yourself and our church. Please contact us at the church office if you have any questions, or if you want to commit to particular acts of service in this new vision.

“You are the light of the world
A City set on a hill can not be hidden
Let your light shine before others in such a way that they may see you good works and glorify our Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

Feedback

We've been coming to Door Creek for several months but didn't know anyone.  Having the fellowship of our home group means everything to us.
