Youth Series


The following is a brief overview of some of the main youth fiction series we have in the Door Creek Church (DCC) Library. Listed below in alphabetical order by series name is the series, author, the genre, the numbers in the series that are part of the DCC Library, and a brief summary of the series.

The Accidental Detectives  by Sigmund Brouwer,  Mystery,  Numbers 1-16
Faith, friendship, and high-stakes adventure! Readers will devour these fast-paced whodunits chronicling a group of friends as they travel the globe--stumbling into one mystery after another. Recommended for ages 8 to 13.

Animal Friends   by Janette Oke,   General, Numbers 1-3, 5, 10-12
Charming tales of endearing little animals teach your 6- to 10-year-olds valuable life lessons about things like friendship, fear, and responsibility.  Lighter, smaller books, fitting for younger readers.

Astro Kids    by Robert Elmer,  Fantasy,  Numbers 1-10
Kids love the fun of these action-packed stories, space gadgets, and irresistible illustrations; parents love the solid biblical message and real space facts. Ages 7 to 12.

Blog On Series  by Dandi Daley Mackall,   General (Girls), Numbers 1-6
The Blog On fiction series from Faithgirlz! encourages girls to use the Internet to stay connected to life, each other, and God. Life online can be a minefield. Though it has potential dangers, it also has the ability to unite and connect kids with their friends and families in powerful new ways. Recommended for ages 8 to 12.

Bloodhounds, Inc.   by Bill Myers,   Mystery, Numbers 1-12
Madcap mysteries with a message! This highly acclaimed mystery and suspense series will keep you on the edge of your seat. Travel with brother-and-sister detectives, Sean and Melissa Hunter as they try to solve each wacky mystery. Each fast-paced story features the unflappable young sleuths of the Bloodhounds, Inc. team! Recommended for ages 8 to 13.

Choice Adventures   by various authors,  Action/Adventure, Numbers 3-12
Full of humor and adventure, this series helps kids learn to make wise choices as they explore the many plot possibilities in each book. These Christian alternatives to multiple-plot books encourage positive values and trust in God. (Ages 8 to 12).

Christy Fiction    by C. Archer,   Historical, Numbers 3, 5, 8, 9, 10
Based on Catherine Marshall's beloved best-seller Christy, these stories about plucky, headstrong Christy Huddleston--who left her comfortable home to teach the mountain children at a mission school in the heart of the Smoky Mountains--tell of life as it was a hundred years ago, full of adventure, romance, intrigue, and excitement. Recommended for ages 10-14.

The Cooper Kids Adventures  by Frank Peretti,  Action/Adventure,  Numbers 1-8
Follow archaeologist Jake Cooper and his teenagers, Jay and Lila, as they plunge through tangled jungles, meet "ghosts" from the past, search for missing standing stones, and battle ancient evil forces. These Indiana Jones-like adventures will keep readers on the edge of their seats while teaching biblical values! Recommended for ages 10 to 14.

The Cul-de-sac Kids   by Beverly Lewis,   Mystery, Numbers 1-10, 21-23
Your 7- to 10-year olds will have a ball (and learn to rely on Jesus) reading about the Cul-de-sac Kid's funny exploits! This exciting and lighthearted chapter book series for young readers centers on the often humorous escapades of a group of neighborhood friends. Nicknamed the "Cul-de-Sac Kids," they learn important lessons about friendship, teamwork, and faith through their adventures and mysteries.

Detective Zack    by Jerry Thomas,   Mystery, Numbers 1-6
The first Detective Zack book grew out of a trip the author's family took and the question, "Can we believe what the Bible says about Noah's flood? Is there any scientific evidence to support it?" And of course, there is. The rest of the Detective Zack books address the same question: Can we believe what the Bible says?

Elsie Dinsmore   by Martha Finley,   Historical, Numbers 1-8
Meet Elsie Dinsmore, a lovely eight-year-old heiress who lives on a wealthy Southern plantation in the mid-1800's. Her mother is dead and she has never known her father. Living in her grandfather's home, she often feels rejected, unloved, and misunderstood. Elsie is sustained by her deep Christian faith and her hope to one day be loved by her father. Recommended for ages 10 to 14.

Friends for a Season   by Sandra Byrd,  General, Numbers 1-4
The Friends for a Season by Sandra Byrd explores how friendships grow and change over time. Each book in the series focuses on a different set of friends during a different season. With simple and effective writing, Sandra powerfully conveys the depth of her characters. Recommended for ages 10 to 14.

Girls Only (GO!) Series  by Beverly Lewis,   General, Numbers 1-8
Beverly Lewis' Girls Only series takes you behind the scenes as a group of young athletes train and compete in Olympic sports. Share their fears and hopes as they work to make their dreams of gold come true. Each of the girls must learn to balance their dreams with putting faith, family, and friends first. Along the way they learn about teamwork, dedication, perseverance, and what it means to be a winner. Recommended for ages 8 to 13.

Golden Filly Series   by Lauraine Snelling,  General, Numbers 1-9
A young girl struggles with questions of faith while dealing with her father's illness, her mother's worry, school work, and training to race horses. Recommended for ages 9-12.

High Hurdles Series   by Lauraine Snelling, General, Numbers 1-4, 6-10
A young woman dreams of owning her own horse and training for the Olympics. To pay for riding time, she works at the stable and trains young riders.  Recommended for ages 9-12.
 
Holly's Heart Series   by Beverly Lewis,  General, Numbers 1-14
Holly's Heart books are fun and captivating stories for early teen readers. Holly has a lot going on in her life. She's learning to adjust to living in a one parent home, dealing with an absent father and moving into a blended family--all while figuring out how to depend on her faith to help her though all the challenges of life. Recommended for ages 11 to 14.

HyperLinkz    by Robert Elmer,  Action/Adventure, Numbers 1-6
Thanks to a very weird digital camera, normal 12-year-olds Austin and Ashley Webster from Normal, Illinois are still stuck inside the World Wide Web. They're meeting cyber-people, chasing their aunt's dog Applet and trying to keep the mysterious Mattie Blankenskrean from erasing the truth of God's involvement in our world and in history! Recommended for ages 8-12.

The Imager Chronicles   by Bill Myers, Fantasy, Numbers 1-4 
In this action-packed, allegorical series from Bill Myers, The Imager Chronicles follows the growth of a person from a seeker of God to a mature believer. Denise, Nathan, and Joshua stumble into the land of Fayrah, ruled by the Imager--the One who make us in His image. They are drawn into wonderful adventures that teach them about life, faith, and the all-encompassing heart of God. Recommended for ages 10-14.

The Incredible Worlds of Wally McDoogle by Bill Myers,  Action/Adventure, Numbers 1-27
This best-selling, hilarious series features lovable but nerdy Wally McDoogle who blunders his way through life in these exciting, imaginative and fast-paced adventures. Wally is a genius/whiz kid/future famous author, and he wreaks havoc wherever he goes! Ultimately, Wally, his pals, and his imaginary superheroes learn valuable lessons like trusting God and sharing the gospel with others. Recommended for ages 8 to 12.

Left Behind: The Kids   by Jerry Jenkins,   End Times,  Numbers 1-40
Based on the best-selling adult series, Left Behind: The Kids follows a group of teenagers who have been left behind after the rapture. The events foretold in the book of Revelation come to life as the kids struggle to survive. They have nothing left except their new-found faith in Jesus Christ, but they are determined to stand up for God no matter the cost--although tested at every turn. Recommended for ages 10-14.

The Lily Series    by Nancy Rue,    General (Girls), Numbers 1-14
Welcome to the wonderful world of Lily Robbins! In these fun, entertaining stories about growing up, you'll meet an awkward sixth-grader named Lily. Independent, mischievous, and irrepressible, Lily enjoys rollicking adventures--and learns about Christian character along the way. Recommended for girls ages 8 to 12.

Mandie Series    by Lois Leppard,    Historical/Mystery, Numbers 1-40; plus #1 of Mandie, Her College Days
Amanda Shaw, Mandie for short, is part Cherokee and all curiosity! In turn-of-the-century North Carolina, she manages to get into the most impossible scrapes as she investigates mysteries and learns a lot about God. Recommended for ages 8 to 13.

The Misadventures of Willie Plummet by Paul Buchanan and Rod Randall,  Adventure, Numbers 1-20
Eighth-grader Willie Plummet seems to go from one crazy scheme to another. Wherever adventurous Willie goes, wacky disasters follow. Each book in the series finds the inventive Willie strategizing his way of a new debacle with amazing inventions and hilarious results. But Willie learns that God always has the best answers to all his problems. For ages 8-12.

Passages Series   by Paul McCusker,  Fantasy, Numbers 1-6
Parallel worlds, universal truths. What if history repeated itself--with you in it? Passages takes familiar stories and retells them from a kid's perceptive. Loosely based on the popular Adventures in Odyssey series, Passages books begin in Odyssey and take you to a fantasyland, where true belief becomes the adventure of a lifetime! Recommended for ages 10 and up.

Red Rock Mysteries   by Jerry Jenkins,   Mystery, Numbers 1-8
Watch out! The Timberline twins are on the loose. Bryce and Ashley are ATV-riding tweens from Colorado who unearth action-packed mystery and adventure wherever they go. From clearing the name of a local miscreant to thwarting a gold-stealing heist, the twins' growing faith and the strong example of their parents guide them through even the most life-threatening situations. Recommended for ages 8-12.

Slam Dunk Series   by Tess Kindig,   General, Numbers 1-8
Fourth-grader Mickey McGhee and his best friend, Zack Zeno, eat, sleep, and breathe basketball.  Their devotion to the sport leads to all kinds of adventures as they learn the importance of friendship, forgiveness and unconditional love--especially God's love. Recommended for ages 6 to 9.

Sophie Series    by Nancy Rue, General (Girls), Numbers 1-12
Meet Sophie LaCroix. She's got an active imagination and is destined to become a great film director someday. Enjoy her antics as she learns about life, growing up, and especially faith. Recommended for ages 8 to 12.

Trailblazer Series   by Dave and Neta Jackson, Historical, Various numbers 
These thrilling stories blaze through history as make-believe kids meet real-life Christian heroes! Ages 8-12.

Winnie the Horse Gentler  by Dandi Daley Mackall, General, Numbers 1-8
Twelve-year-old Winnie Willis has a way with horses. She can gentle the wildest mare, but other parts of her life don't always come as easily. Along with her dad and sister, Lizzy, Winnie is learning how to live without her mom, who was also a natural horse gentler. As Winnie teaches her horses about unconditional love and blind trust, God shows Winnie that he can be trusted too. Readers will be hooked on the series' vivid characters, whose quirky personalities fill Winnie's life with friendship and adventure. For ages 8 to 12.
