Alpha 1 is Door Creek’s starting point for those seeking, returning or refreshing their relationship with God. It’s a friendly and safe place to get your questions about the faith answered through DVD instruction and active table discussion.
Each ten week session includes a delicious supper served for you and your new friends. After watching the DVD and taking a brief break, you’ll begin your table discussion with dessert. It’s a time of great food, warm people and helpful information to help you grow in your faith journey.
Our next Alpha 1 Course:Alpha 2 is offered on the same night and in the same format as Alpha. Alpha 2 is designed for those who have recently completed Alpha in addition to those who have just begun their new walk with God and are new to Bible study.
Some weekly preparation for the study will be necessary. Learn what this new life in Christ is about as you go through the book of Philippians and learn about your new heart, purpose, attitude, responsibilities, friednships, confidence, ambitions, resources and generostiy.
Who is Alpha I for? People attend from all backgrounds, religions, and viewpoints. They come to investigate questions about the existence of God, the purpose of life, the afterlife, the claims of Jesus and more. Some people want to get beyond religion and find a relationship with God that really changes life. Others come for the close, long-lasting friendships that are built during the Alpha course. Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. Everyone is welcome.
Who is Alpha II for? Generally for those who have gone through Alpha I – same format, but more of a Bible study on the early Church and practical advice on what to do with your newfound faith.
What Happens at Alpha? Each gathering begins with a meal or refreshments - a chance to get to know others. Then there is a short talk which looks at a different aspect of the Christian faith each week. This is followed by a time of discussion in small groups, where everyone is welcome to contribute their opinion and ask questions. People usually stay in the same small groups for the duration of the course so they can get to know each other, continue discussions and deepen friendships. The emphasis is upon exploration and discovery in a relaxed and informal environment.
o Mark: "When I first heard about the Alpha course I was at a stage when I was searching for something 'out there'. I really needed to ask questions and not feel like I was getting a hard-sell pitched at me. Now I perceive things differently and just feel so at peace. I have also met a wonderful bunch of new friends on the course."
o Cynthia: I decided to take the Alpha course because I was unsure what it was I believed. I needed something to fill the empty place in my life. I started attending Alpha to seek answers to those basic questions about my faith and who God was.”
o Anthony: "I didn’t expect the warm welcome I received, the interesting discussions or the lack of pressure to speak in the small groups that followed. I found that I could express any doubts about Christianity, and that my opinions would be respected. If I had an issue with something, I had a forum to voice it with no need to apologize."
o Bill: “For the first time in my 30+ years I realized that God wasn’t something far away.”
